This Sunday we welcome to the pulpit Nina Nichols. Nina received her Masters of Divinity from the University of Chicago in 1995. She served as a clergy person in rural, urban, and suburban congregations until 2013. Currently, Nina is the Assistant Director of Development at Unity House of Troy, a human service agency whose mission is making life better for people in poverty through direct service and advocating for social justice. Nina is also a Rensselaer County Legislator. Next Sunday, April 28, is our monthly collection for New Scotland Community Food Pantry. There will be a box in the lobby to accept your donations of non-perishable food items, paper goods, or personal care products. Specifically, this month they need toilet paper, dish detergent; gluten free items; toothpaste and feminine hygiene products. There will also be a basket for money contributions. All money collected goes to Heifer Project and the New Scotland Community Food Pantry. Our April Mission Collection is for One Great Hour of Sharing: Restoring hope, feeding the hungry, and empowering the oppressed. In a world of disaster, hunger and oppression, millions of people lack access to sustainable food sources, clean water, sanitation, education, and opportunity. The three programs supported by One Great Hour of Sharing — Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Presbyterian Hunger Program, and the Self-Development of People — all work in different ways to serve individuals and communities in need. From initial disaster response to ongoing community development, their work fits together to provide people with safety, sustenance, and hope. For more than fifty years, Presbyterians have joined with Christians throughout the nation in responding to Christ's love for all people by joyfully sharing that love with people in need through supporting One Great Hour of Sharing. Building on Generosity Workshop: On Monday, April 22, our Presbyterian Foundation Representative, Rose Niles, will be with us for our second meeting focusing on stewardship and generosity. We’ll start gathering about 5:30 p.m. for a light supper and then Rose will lead us in creating a mission statement and vision plan. Generosity grows from clarity of mission and vision. All are welcome and encouraged to join us in deep discernment of our mission and vision to live into resurrection hope and joy. We are planning two Spring Nature Walks at Heldeberg Workshop on Wednesday, April 24 and Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 am. Join us for a 60-90 minute gentle walk to see the spring flowers that are coming up. If you are interested, please email office@newscotlandpc.org CPR/AED Training: After coffee hour next Sunday (April 28), we will review how to the AED unit, used in heart emergencies, and learn CPR, with instructors Alexandra and Mitchell Donovan. Our beautiful and historic sanctuary with flowers dedicated to
the Glory of God in celebration of Easter 2023.
the Glory of God in celebration of Easter 2023.
"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you."
