The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.

May 18, 2025 Announcements This Sunday we are delighted to welcome this morning’s worship leader, the Rev. Laura Mitchell, Presbytery Chaplain. Laura was ordained by Albany Presbytery in 2010. She served as Pastor at Hebron United Presbyterian Church for 10 years, and also served as Clinical Pastoral Resident at Albany Medical Hospital, Pastoral Care Coordinator at Saratoga Hospital, and as Stated Supply Pastor to First Presbyterian Church, Glens Falls. As well as her MDiv and BSN, Laura holds certificates in Spiritual Direction and Palliative Care Chaplaincy. In addition, Laura taught ballet at Adirondack Repertory Dance Theatre in Glens Falls for many years. She and her husband Phill have two grown daughters and four grandchildren, and enjoy splitting their time between their Lake George cabin and their home in Niskayuna. Laura’s interests include sewing, classical music, ballet, and training her new puppy. Arrangements for Dorothy Kohler: Calling hours at Reilly & Son Funeral Home in Voorheesville are this Wednesday, May 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral is at our church this Thursday, May 22, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon reception to follow downstairs. Burial is at the convenience of the family. The obituary should be in today’s newspaper and on the funeral home website. Next Sunday, May 25, is our monthly collection for New Scotland Community Food Pantry. There will be a box in the lobby to accept your donations of non-perishable food items, paper goods, or personal care products. There will also be a basket for money contributions. All money collected goes to Heifer Project and the New Scotland Community Food Pantry. Visioning! Our Vision Plan Team is planning to meet with everyone in our church family. We want to hear your thoughts and hopes for our church over the next several years. The members of the team will be reaching out to you soon! Next Book Discussion! “Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart” by Brian McLaren, starting Tuesday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m., through the Tuesdays of June, on Zoom. The book is in the Albany library system. All are welcome! Our May Mission is the Pentecost offering, a witness to Jesus’ injunction that “whoever welcomes one of these little ones, welcomes me.” Each church directs 40% of what they receive for ministries to benefit children at risk. The remaining 60% supports child advocacy (10%), youth ministry (25%), and Young Adult Volunteers (25%). Our 40% will go to The South End Children’s Café in Albany. Their mission is to impact food security, food equality and food justice; enhance academic success; and positively influence the physical and mental health of children by offering free, healthy meals along with homework help, academic enrichment, mentoring, exercise, and the arts. Voorheesville Memorial Day Parade: Saturday, May 24, at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony immediately follows, behind the American Legion Building, with our own Rev. Cameron offering the benediction. Climate Forum Speaker: Congressman Paul Tonko will talk about climate change on Wednesday, May 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian, 85 Chestnut St. Advance registration is requested; see the flyer on the bulletin board. If you are interested in carpooling, see Bonnie O’Shea or the Rev. Cameron. Laity Sunday, June 1! Albany Presbytery is having a retreat the last couple of days in May and has provided worship items for Sunday June 1 (this is to allow the pastors to enjoy the retreat and not be working on their sermons instead). We could use a few readers for that day. If you are willing, please see Bonnie O’Shea or the Rev. Cameron. Save the Date for BBQ! Thursday, June 19, 4:00 - 6:00 pm, we again host Barbecue Delights for chicken and rib dinners! $16 for chicken; $17 for ribs. Fair Trade: We have a variety of chocolate bars, coffee, and olive oil at cost. FREE Yamaha Baby Grand Piano. Contact the office if you are interested. |
